The Davey ChloroMatic Nipper is a salt and mineral water chlorinator designed for in-ground and above-ground residential swimming pools.
It uses a high-performance reverse-polarity cell to produce chlorine from salt in the pool water, with adjustable chlorine output, dual timers and operating modes to suit changing pool conditions throughout the year.
Five models are available, covering normal-salt and low-salt pools, with chlorine outputs from 15 g/hr to 35 g/hr and maximum pool sizes up to 140,000 litres in cool climates.
The Nipper can also be upgraded with a compatible Davey Lifeguard controller where automated pH dosing, ORP control, salt and temperature measurement, and app-based remote monitoring are required.

How It Works
Salt dissolved in the pool water passes through the Nipper's electrolytic cell, where chlorine is generated to sanitise the pool.
The chlorine output can be adjusted to match the needs of the pool. Dual timers allow the chlorinator to operate alongside the pool's normal filtration schedule.
The reverse-polarity cell automatically changes polarity during operation to help reduce scale build-up on the cell plates and reduce routine cleaning requirements.
An integrated flow switch monitors water movement through the cell. If adequate flow is not detected, the no-flow protection system cuts operation to the cell for protection.

Choosing the Correct Model
Pool volume is only one part of chlorinator sizing.
Warmer water and heavier bather loads increase chlorine demand, so maximum recommended pool size reduces as climate temperature rises.
For example, the DNP25C and DNP25CLS are rated for maximum pool volumes of:
- 100,000 L in cool climates below 25°C
- 80,000 L in temperate climates from 25–30°C
- 60,000 L in hot and tropical climates above 30°C
For pools close to a model's maximum capacity, consider local climate and normal pool usage rather than choosing solely by water volume.

Reverse-Polarity Cell
The Nipper uses a high-performance U-shaped reverse-polarity cell with an easy-fit connection.
Reverse polarity helps reduce scale accumulation during normal operation, but it does not remove the need for inspection and cleaning entirely.
In hard-water applications above 275 ppm, the cell should be inspected regularly. Monthly inspection and manual cleaning may be required.
Safety Features
An integrated flow switch monitors water flow through the cell.
If the system detects a no-flow condition, the chlorinator provides a no-flow indication and cuts power to the cell to help protect the equipment.
Battery backup also provides protection for settings during power interruptions.
Upgrade with Davey Lifeguard
The Nipper can be integrated with the Davey ChloroMatic Lifeguard controller for more advanced pool automation.
A Lifeguard-equipped system can add:
