Davey Microlene — UV Water Disinfection Systems
Treat your water against harmful micro-organisms, without chemicals.
The Davey Microlene range covers five standalone UV disinfection systems — from compact units for small households to high-output systems handling up to 208 LPM. These are UV-only units. They do not include filter housings or cartridges. Pre-filtration must be installed upstream of the UV unit — see the pre-filtration section below.
Bore water quality varies significantly. We recommend testing your bore water before selecting a UV system — get in touch and we'll help you choose the right configuration for your supply.
Pre-Filtration
UV works best on clean, particle-free water. Particles in the incoming supply can shield micro-organisms from the UV light, reducing treatment effectiveness. As a minimum, 20 micron cartridge filtration is recommended upstream of the UV unit. Where Giardia or Cryptosporidium are a concern, 1 micron filtration is required at drinking water taps.
Pre-filtration components are not included with these units and must be set up separately. Get in touch and we'll recommend the right combination for your water supply.
Choose Your Model
| Model | Flow Rate (30 mJ/cm² @ 95% UVT) | Connection | Chamber Material | Lamp Life |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UV24 | 23 LPM | ¾" NPT | 304 SS | 9,000 hrs |
| UV57 | 57 LPM | 1" NPT | 304 SS | 9,000 hrs |
| UV80 | 79 LPM | 1" NPT | 304 SS | 9,000 hrs |
| UV151 | 151 LPM | 1½" NPT | 316L SS | 10,000 hrs |
| UV250 | 208 LPM | 2" BSP | 316 SS | 9,000 hrs |
All flow rates shown at 30 mJ/cm² — the minimum recommended industry standard for drinking water treatment.
Connection note: UV24, UV57, UV80, and UV151 have NPT connections. NPT is not the NZ plumbing standard — your plumber will need BSP-to-NPT adaptors, available from most plumbing merchants. The UV250 has 2" BSP connections, which are standard.
Voltage note: The UV250 operates on 230–240V/50Hz only. Confirm this is compatible with your installation before ordering.
How UV Disinfection Works
The UV lamp operates at 254nm. As water passes through the stainless steel chamber, the UV light penetrates micro-organisms present in the supply, damaging their ability to reproduce and cause illness. Organisms exposed to UV are no longer viable to cause infection and cannot be detected on a culture plate.
UV treatment adds no chemicals and leaves no residuals. It does not change the taste, smell, colour, or chemistry of your water.
Features Across the Range
All models:
- Axial flow, polished stainless steel chambers
- Visual sight port to confirm the lamp is operating
- Tool-free bayonet lamp connector — quarter-turn removal, no tools needed
- Fully potted ballast in a splash-proof controller — resists water damage
- Audible and visual lamp failure indicators
- Mounting brackets supplied
- Designed and manufactured to ASME pressure vessel standards
- All wetted components USFDA listed
UV24 / UV57 / UV80 / UV151 — integral lamp life monitor:
These models include a lamp change reminder. The controller provides both audible and visual advance warning as the lamp approaches end of life — giving you time to arrange a replacement before the lamp fails completely.
UV250 — alarm on failure:
The UV250 uses a separate power supply enclosure with an orange mains-on indicator and a red visible alarm indicator. The alarm triggers when the lamp fails. There is no advance reminder on this model — replace the lamp annually as a matter of routine, or when the alarm activates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which model suits my home?
Match the model to your peak flow demand. UV24 suits single-tap or low-flow setups. UV57 suits small households. UV80 suits medium-sized homes. UV151 suits large homes or high-demand properties. UV250 suits high-flow applications. If you're not sure, get in touch and we'll help you size it correctly.
Do these units include filter housings or cartridges?
No. These are standalone UV disinfection units only. Pre-filtration must be installed upstream — at minimum 20 micron cartridge filtration, and 1 micron where Giardia or Cryptosporidium are a concern. Get in touch and we'll recommend the right combination for your supply.
Do I need a plumber to install it?
For most customers, yes — a licensed plumber is the safest path and protects your warranty on the plumbing side. These units arrive assembled, plug into a standard power outlet, and suit horizontal or vertical installation. If you're confident with household plumbing, the installation itself is straightforward. If you're not sure, get in touch and we'll help you decide.
What connection fittings will I need?
UV24, UV57, UV80, and UV151 have NPT connections. NPT is not the NZ standard — your plumber will need BSP-to-NPT adaptors, available from most plumbing merchants. The UV250 has 2" BSP connections, which are standard.
How often do I replace the lamp?
UV24, UV57, UV80: every 9,000 hours. UV151: every 10,000 hours. UV250: annually (9,000 hours / 1 year continuous use). The UV24–UV151 controllers include an advance lamp change reminder. The UV250 alarms when the lamp fails — replace it annually as a matter of routine rather than waiting for the alarm.
Is the UV250 compatible with a standard NZ power outlet?
The UV250 operates on 230–240V/50Hz only and comes with a 1.7m power lead with a standard 3-pin plug. Confirm your installation is compatible before ordering.
Can the unit be installed horizontally or vertically?
Yes. Both orientations are supported. If installed horizontally, the outlet should point upwards. If installed vertically, the outlet should point horizontally. Mounting brackets are included.
Is UV suitable for rainwater or bore water?
Yes, subject to water quality. Incoming water must meet the quality parameters listed above. Bore water quality varies significantly — we recommend testing before installing. Get in touch and we'll help you choose the right configuration for your supply.
Does UV treatment affect the taste or smell of my water?
No. UV adds no chemicals and leaves no residuals. Taste, smell, colour, and chemistry are unchanged.
What warranty comes with these units?
10 years on the stainless steel chamber, 3 years on electronics, and 12 months on UV lamps and quartz sleeves.
