A washable, reusable pleated sediment filter for Jumbo (Big Blue) housings — suits tank, bore, and river water supplies.

The Pentair Polypleated Jumbo filter is made from durable pleated polyester. The pleated construction gives a large surface area compared to a standard wound or spun cartridge, holding more sediment before restriction and maintaining better flow as it loads up. When dirty, rinse it clean and refit — no need to replace until the polyester degrades or is damaged.

Available in 10" and 20" lengths and four micron ratings. Select your size and micron rating using the dropdowns above.

Which micron rating do I need?

Micron Filtration level Best suited to
1 micron Fine Final stage filtration, protecting UV lamps and sensitive downstream equipment
5 micron Fine-medium Second or final stage sediment filtration — fine silt and small particles
20 micron Medium First stage pre-filtration on bore, river, or tank water with moderate sediment
50 micron Coarse First stage pre-filtration on high-sediment bore, river, and surface water

General guidance: run coarser ratings upstream and finer ratings downstream. A common two-stage setup uses a 20 or 50 micron cartridge in the first housing and a 1 or 5 micron in the second.

Which size do I need?

  • 10" (250mm) — fits standard Jumbo (Big Blue) 10" housings
  • 20" (500mm) — fits standard Jumbo (Big Blue) 20" housings. Higher dirt capacity and longer service life between cleanings.

Match the length to your existing housing. Both are 4.5" diameter (Jumbo / Big Blue standard).

Frequently asked questions

What makes a pleated filter different from a standard sediment cartridge?

A pleated filter folds the filter media back and forth, which creates a much larger surface area than a flat or wound cartridge of the same size. More surface area means more capacity to hold sediment before the filter restricts flow — so it tends to last longer between cleanings on high-sediment supplies.

Can I actually wash and reuse it?

Yes. When flow drops or the cartridge is visibly dirty, remove it from the housing, rinse it under a hose or tap, and refit. How many times you can do this depends on water quality — fine silts tend to embed in the pleats more than coarser sand. Replace the cartridge when rinsing no longer restores adequate flow.

Which micron rating is right for my supply?

Coarser ratings (20 or 50 micron) suit first stage pre-filtration on bore, river, or surface water with visible sediment. Finer ratings (1 or 5 micron) suit second stage or final stage filtration, or where you need to protect downstream equipment such as a UV lamp. If you run two housings in series, use the coarser rating in the first housing and the finer rating in the second.

Will it fit my Big Blue housing?

Yes, if your housing is a standard Jumbo (Big Blue) 10" or 20" size. Both cartridge lengths are 4.5" in diameter, which is the Jumbo / Big Blue standard. Check your housing length before ordering — 10" and 20" cartridges are not interchangeable.

Can I use this on bore water?

Yes. The polyester material handles bore water well. If your bore water has a high sediment load, the 20 or 50 micron rating is a good starting point for first stage filtration. Bore water quality varies — get in touch if you'd like help choosing the right setup for your supply.
