1 & 5 Micron Jumbo Polyspun Sediment Filter

Fine sediment filtration for your whole-house filter system — available in premium Davey or value Waimana.

This polyspun cartridge removes fine particles, silt, rust dust, and grit from your water supply. It works as a second-stage filter downstream of a coarse pleated cartridge, polishing the water before it reaches a carbon block or UV stage. Unlike a pleated cartridge, polyspun is a depth filter — particles are trapped throughout the fibre matrix, not just on the surface. These cartridges are replace-only; they are not cleanable or reusable.

Available in two brands, two sizes, and two micron ratings. Choose Davey for certified, premium performance. Choose Waimana for reliable everyday filtration at a sharper price.

Fits most 10" Jumbo housings (10" x 4.5" cartridge) and 20" Jumbo housings (20" x 4.5" cartridge) — including Davey, Pentair, Puretec, Trevoli, and most other major brands. Jumbo housings take a 4.5" diameter cartridge. If you're unsure whether your housing is Jumbo or Standard, measure the cartridge diameter — Jumbo is 4.5", Standard is 2.5".

Choose Your Brand

Davey Microlene — Premium

The Davey Microlene polyspun cartridge is certified to AS/NZS 4020 for use in contact with drinking water. Both the 1 micron and 5 micron variants carry this certification. For households who want certified, reliable fine sediment protection at every service interval.

Waimana — Value

Waimana is our straightforward value cartridge — reliable fine sediment removal, fair price. A sensible choice for everyday filtration where budget matters.

Choose Your Size

10" Jumbo (10" x 4.5")

Suits 10" Jumbo housings. Replace every 6–12 months depending on water quality and sediment load.

20" Jumbo (20" x 4.5")

Suits 20" Jumbo housings. Longer cartridge holds more filter media — extends the time between replacements. The better choice for high-usage households or supplies with heavier fine sediment loads.

Choose Your Micron Rating

1 Micron — Fine

Removes very fine particles down to 1 micron, including parasitic cysts such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Required as a pre-filter for UV disinfection systems treating rainwater or tank water where cysts may be present. Loads up faster than the 5 micron — expect shorter replacement intervals on dirty supplies.

5 Micron — Medium

Removes fine sediment at 5 microns. A good choice for mains water supplies where cysts are not a concern and a longer service interval is preferred. Slightly higher flow rate than the 1 micron.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which micron rating should I choose?

Choose 1 micron if you're on rainwater or tank water and want protection against parasitic cysts (Giardia, Cryptosporidium), or if you're using a UV system — 1 micron filtration is a standard requirement upstream of UV for rainwater supplies. Choose 5 micron if you're on mains water, cysts are not a concern, and you prefer a longer service interval between replacements. Lower micron ratings filter finer but clog faster, especially on dirty supplies.

Which brand should I choose?

If you want a certified cartridge — particularly for drinking water supplies — choose Davey. Both the 1 and 5 micron Davey Microlene polyspun cartridges are certified to AS/NZS 4020, the NZ and Australian standard for products used in contact with drinking water. If you're filtering for general household use on a tighter budget, Waimana delivers reliable fine sediment removal at a better price point.

Which size should I choose?

Match the cartridge size to your housing. If your housing takes a 10" x 4.5" cartridge, choose 10" Jumbo. If it takes a 20" x 4.5" cartridge, choose 20" Jumbo. Not sure? Measure the cartridge you're replacing — Jumbo is 4.5" in diameter. If you're still unsure, get in touch and we'll help you identify the right fit.

Will it fit my housing?

This cartridge fits most 10" and 20" Jumbo housings — including Davey, Pentair, Puretec, Trevoli, and most other major brands. The key measurement is diameter: Jumbo housings take a 4.5" diameter cartridge. If your housing takes a 2.5" diameter cartridge, you need the Standard size, not this one.

Can I clean and reuse this cartridge?

No. Polyspun is a depth filter — particles are trapped throughout the fibre matrix, not just on the surface. Once loaded, it cannot be effectively cleaned. Replace when flow drops noticeably, or at least every 6–12 months.

How often do I need to replace it?

Every 6–12 months is the general guideline, but it depends on your water quality and sediment load. The 1 micron rating will load up faster than the 5 micron on the same supply. On heavily contaminated tank water, you may need to replace more frequently. Replace when flow drops noticeably.

What does AS/NZS 4020 mean?

AS/NZS 4020 is the Australian and New Zealand standard for products used in contact with drinking water. A product certified to this standard has been independently tested and confirmed safe for use in drinking water systems. The Davey Microlene cartridges carry this certification. The Waimana cartridges do not.

Does the 1 micron cartridge protect against bacteria?

No. At 1 micron this cartridge removes fine particles and cysts such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, but it does not remove or inactivate bacteria or viruses. UV disinfection is required for bacteria and virus protection.

What warranty applies?

Filter cartridges are consumable items. If you receive a cartridge that appears damaged or defective on arrival, get in touch and we'll sort it out.
