Most shower filters tackle chlorine. The Waiora Fresh Shower Plus goes further — 12 filtration stages covering sediment, chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, and scale-forming minerals. If you've noticed your water feels harsh on your skin or hair, this is where you start.

It connects directly to your existing shower arm or handheld shower fitting using a standard ½" BSP thread — no plumber needed. The chrome ABS housing is compact and sits inline between your shower arm and head. One cartridge lasts 6 to 12 months depending on usage.

Why Kiwi homeowners choose the Fresh Shower Plus

  • 12 filtration stages — covers sediment, chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, and scale in a single cartridge
  • Chloramine reduction — addresses chloramines as well as chlorine for more complete chemical treatment
  • KDF-55 media reduces heavy metals and inhibits bacterial growth in the filter housing
  • Calcium sulfite reduces chlorine effectively at higher water temperatures — important for hot showers
  • Softening media helps reduce scale for noticeably smoother water
  • Fits most shower arms and handheld fittings — standard ½" BSP thread, no tools required
  • High-strength chrome ABS housing — looks the part and handles daily use

How it works

The Fresh Shower Plus uses six media types across 12 filtration stages. Each stage targets a different type of impurity — coarse particles first, then chlorine and chloramines, then heavy metals, then scale and minerals, with additional softening layers at the end.

Water flows through the cartridge at typical shower pressure (6–9 L/min), giving the media sufficient contact time to do its work. At the end of the cartridge's life (6–12 months), the whole cartridge is replaced.

Stage breakdown by media type:

  • Sediment pads — catches sand, rust, and fine particles
  • KDF-55 — reduces heavy metals and free chlorine; inhibits bacterial growth in the media
  • Activated carbon — removes chlorine, chloramines, organic compounds, and odours
  • Calcium sulfite — effectively reduces chlorine in hot water conditions
  • Ceramic balls — assists with softening and water refinement
  • Softening media — reduces scale-forming minerals for smoother water feel

Frequently asked questions

Is the Fresh Shower Plus right for me?

The Fresh Shower Plus is designed for town water households wanting thorough treatment from their shower. If you've noticed your water feels harsh, your skin feels dry after showering, or there's a chlorine smell — this filter addresses all of those. It's also a strong choice for anyone with sensitive skin who wants the most complete treatment available from a shower filter.

Does it reduce chloramines?

Yes — the activated carbon and calcium sulfite stages both contribute to chloramine reduction, as well as tackling free chlorine.

Will it fit my shower?

It connects via a standard ½" BSP thread, which is the most common shower fitting in New Zealand. It fits between your shower arm and your shower head. If you're unsure whether your fitting is ½" BSP, check the thread size on your existing shower arm connection — most NZ showers use this standard.

How do I install it?

Unscrew your shower head from the shower arm, thread the filter onto the arm, then reattach the shower head to the filter outlet. No tools are needed for most installations. The O-ring in the box ensures a watertight seal.

How often do I replace the cartridge?

Every 6–12 months depending on your water quality and how often you shower. In areas with higher chlorine or sediment loads, you may need to replace it closer to the 6-month mark. The clearest sign is a drop in flow rate or the return of a chlorine smell.

Will it affect my water pressure?

At typical shower pressure, the filter is rated to flow 6–9 L/min — which is within the normal range for a household shower. Most customers don't notice a meaningful pressure difference.

What warranty does it come with?

12 months.
