How to choose
- Want better water everywhere? A whole-house system filters every tap at once. 2-stage systems reduce sediment and chlorine. 3-stage systems add a further stage, such as heavy metal reduction.
- Only worried about drinking water? An under-sink filter is a focused option for the kitchen.
- Renting or don't want to change the plumbing? A benchtop filter connects to your existing tap.
- Want to reduce fluoride or heavy metals? Look at reverse osmosis or a specialty cartridge, as standard carbon filters mainly target chlorine, taste and odour.
Common questions
Is town water safe to drink?
Yes. Town supply in New Zealand is treated and safe. Filtering it is about taste, smell and removing chlorine and fine sediment.
Will a filter remove fluoride?
Standard sediment and carbon filters aren't designed to remove fluoride. For that you need reverse osmosis or a fluoride-reduction cartridge.
What's the difference between 2-stage and 3-stage?
A 2-stage system usually has a sediment filter and a carbon filter. A 3-stage system adds another filter stage, often for extra carbon or heavy metal reduction.
How often do I change the cartridges?
Most whole-house cartridges are changed every 6 to 12 months, depending on your water and usage. Under-sink and benchtop filters vary by model, so check the product page.
