Complete pool chlorination and chemistry control in one system — managed from your phone, or set and forget from the control panel.

The Davey ChloroMatic Lifeguard is a salt chlorinator and chemistry control system for in-ground and above-ground residential pools. It generates chlorine from salt, monitors water chemistry via ORP and salt sensors, and connects to your smartphone via WiFi and Bluetooth for remote monitoring and control.

Five models are available — three standard salt models (DCLG-15C, DCLG-25C, DCLG-35C) and two low-salt models for mineral pools (DCLG-15CLS, DCLG-25CLS). Select your model using the dropdown above.

Which model do I need?

The right model depends on your pool size and local climate. In NZ, use the Cool or Temperate climate column.

Model Output Salt Level Cool <25°C Temperate 25–30°C Hot >30°C
DCLG-15C 15g/hr 3000–6000ppm 60,000L 48,000L 36,000L
DCLG-25C 25g/hr 3000–6000ppm 100,000L 80,000L 60,000L
DCLG-35C 35g/hr 3000–6000ppm 140,000L 112,000L 84,000L
DCLG-15CLS 15g/hr 1500–6000ppm 60,000L 48,000L 36,000L
DCLG-25CLS 25g/hr 1500–6000ppm 100,000L 80,000L 60,000L

CLS models operate at lower salt levels — as low as 1500ppm — and are suited to mineral pools and customers who prefer a softer, lower-salt pool feel. Standard models require 3000ppm minimum.

How it works

The Lifeguard passes pool water through the in-line chlorination cell. A low-voltage electrical current splits the dissolved salt in the water into chlorine, which sanitises the pool. The reverse polarity function regularly reverses the current to reduce calcium buildup on the cell plates, lowering maintenance frequency.

The ORP sensor monitors oxidation-reduction potential — a measure of the water's sanitising effectiveness — and the salt sensor tracks dissolved salt levels. Both readings display on the LCD panel and in the app.

The WiFi and Bluetooth connected app (iOS and Android) lets you monitor water chemistry, adjust chlorine output, set schedules, and receive alerts remotely. Remote control can be deactivated if preferred.

The integrated flow switch monitors water flow and cuts power to the cell if flow drops below 80 L/min — protecting the cell and supporting safe operation with variable speed pumps.

Important notes

Hard water: In pools with water hardness above 275ppm, reverse polarity systems require regular monthly inspection and manual cleaning of the cell to prevent calcium scale buildup.

Run time: Davey recommends running the system for 6–8 hours per day during summer and 2–4 hours per day during winter. Actual run time will depend on bather load, pool volume, and local climate.

Variable speed pump and heat pump temperature control integration is available on the Lifeguard. Get in touch for compatibility details before purchasing if you plan to use these features.

Frequently asked questions

Which model is right for my pool?

Use the output table in the "Which model do I need?" section above. Match the model to your pool volume and climate. In NZ, the Cool (<25°C) or Temperate (25–30°C) columns are most relevant. CLS models are the better choice for mineral pools or where you prefer a lower salt level.

What's the difference between standard and CLS models?

Standard models (DCLG-15C, DCLG-25C, DCLG-35C) require a minimum salt level of 3000ppm. CLS models (DCLG-15CLS, DCLG-25CLS) operate at 1500–6000ppm — suited to mineral pools where salt is kept lower. Output capacity is identical between equivalent standard and CLS models.

Does it work with variable speed pool pumps?

Yes. The integrated flow switch accommodates flows as low as 80 L/min, making the Lifeguard compatible with variable speed pumps running at reduced speeds. The safety cut-off protects the cell if flow drops below the minimum threshold.

What does the app do?

The free iOS and Android app lets you monitor ORP and salt readings, adjust chlorine output, set dual timers, and receive alerts. Remote control can be deactivated if you prefer local-only operation.

What happens during a power outage?

The Lifeguard includes battery backup that maintains settings and provides blackout protection during power outages.

Do I need to clean the cell?

Reverse polarity reduces calcium buildup on the cell plates automatically. In hard water (above 275ppm), monthly manual inspection and cleaning is still required. The barrel union design allows the cell to be removed for cleaning without tools.

How long should I run the system each day?

Davey recommends 6–8 hours per day during summer and 2–4 hours per day during winter. Actual run time depends on pool volume, bather load, and local conditions.

Can I install it myself?

Installation involves plumbing the cell housing into the pool return line and connecting the control box. For a new installation or where pipework changes are needed, a pool technician is recommended. For a like-for-like replacement of an existing salt chlorinator, a confident installer can usually manage it. Get in touch if you'd like guidance before starting.

What warranty applies?

The Davey ChloroMatic Lifeguard carries a 3-year warranty on the control box and cell, a 1-year warranty on accessories, and a 6-month warranty on probes.
