Davey AquaShield — Whole House UV Filtration System
Clean, filtered, UV-treated water at every tap.
The Davey AquaShield is a 3-stage whole-house UV system designed for small to medium homes. It removes sediment across two filter stages, then treats the water with UV before it reaches your taps. Suitable for mains, rainwater, and bore or surface water — subject to water quality.
BSP to NPT connection adaptors are supplied. Additional plumbing fittings are not included.
Bore water quality varies significantly. We recommend testing your bore water before selecting a filtration system — get in touch and we'll help you choose the right configuration for your supply.
How It Works
Stage 1 — 20 Micron Poly Pleated Cartridge
Removes larger particles, sediment, and debris from your incoming water supply.
Stage 2 — 1 Micron Polyspun Cartridge
Removes fine particles and prepares the water for UV treatment.
Stage 3 — UV Disinfection
A 45W UV lamp in a polished 316L stainless steel chamber delivers a minimum UV dose of 30 mJ/cm² at 95% UVT at 56.8 LPM — the minimum recommended industry standard for drinking water treatment.
Note: Cannot treat water contaminated by metals, chemicals, or algal toxins.
Choose Your Model
All four models use the same UV system and filter stages. The difference is the controller and whether you need the wall mount cover.
| Model | Controller | Display | Wall Mount Cover |
|---|---|---|---|
| AQS-S | Smart — lamp life countdown, alarm, service codes | LED | No |
| AQS-XS | Xtra smart — as above, plus lamp key verification and optional upgrade modules | LCD | No |
| KAQS-S | Smart — lamp life countdown, alarm, service codes | LED | Yes — powder-coated, outdoor-rated |
| KAQS-XS | Xtra smart — as above, plus lamp key verification and optional upgrade modules | LCD | Yes — powder-coated, outdoor-rated |
Both controllers use a countdown timer. When the lamp reaches end of life, the controller sounds an alarm — water flow is not shut off. Replace the lamp promptly to maintain UV treatment.

Water Quality Requirements
For reliable UV performance, incoming water must meet these limits:
| Parameter | Maximum |
|---|---|
| Hardness | 120 mg/L |
| Iron (Fe) | 0.3 ppm |
| Manganese (Mn) | 0.5 ppm |
| Turbidity | 1 NTU |
| Tannins (organics) | 0.1 ppm |
| UV transmittance (UVT) | >85% |
If hardness is at or near 120 mg/L, clean the quartz sleeve periodically to maintain UV penetration. If UVT is below 80%, get in touch before installing — pre-treatment may be required.
Service Intervals
| Component | Interval |
|---|---|
| UV lamp | Every 14 months |
| UV quartz sleeve | Every 14 months |
| Filter cartridges | Every 6–12 months |

Frequently Asked Questions
Which model is right for my home?
All four models use the same UV system and filter stages. The AQS-S suits most homes — LED controller, straightforward, reliable. Step up to the AQS-XS for an LCD display, lamp key verification, and the option to add remote monitoring or a solenoid shut-off valve later. Choose a KAQS model if you're installing outdoors and want built-in weather protection. If you're not sure, get in touch and we'll help you decide.
Do I need a plumber to install it?
For most customers, yes — a licensed plumber is the safest path and protects your warranty on the plumbing side. That said, the AquaShield arrives fully assembled, uses standard 1" fittings (BSP to NPT adaptors supplied), and plugs into a normal power outlet. If you're confident with household plumbing, the installation itself is straightforward. If you're not sure, get in touch and we'll help you decide.
How often do I replace the cartridges and UV lamp?
Replace the UV lamp and quartz sleeve every 14 months. Replace the filter cartridges every 6–12 months depending on your water quality and usage. The controller countdown shows you how long is left on the lamp.
What happens when the lamp countdown reaches zero?
The controller sounds an alarm — water flow is not shut off automatically. Replace the lamp as soon as you're alerted. Running the system past the lamp's service life means the water is no longer receiving UV treatment.
Is the AquaShield suitable for rainwater or bore water?
Yes, subject to water quality. The system works with mains, rainwater, and bore or surface water — but incoming water must meet the quality limits listed above. Bore water quality varies significantly. We recommend testing your bore water before installing — get in touch and we'll help you choose the right configuration for your supply.
Do I need bypass valves?
Bypass valves aren't included and we don't stock them, but we strongly recommend your plumber fit them on either side of the system. They let you isolate the unit for servicing without cutting off your water supply. Any licensed plumber or plumbing merchant can supply and fit them.
What are the water quality requirements?
For reliable UV performance: hardness ≤120 mg/L, iron <0.3 ppm, manganese <0.5 ppm, turbidity <1 NTU, tannins <0.1 ppm, and UV transmittance >85%. If your water exceeds these levels, pre-treatment may be required — get in touch and we'll advise.
Can I install it outdoors?
Yes. The standard AQS-S and AQS-XS models are designed for wall mounting and suit sheltered outdoor locations. The KAQS-S and KAQS-XS add a powder-coated wall mount cover that protects the chamber and controller from rain and direct weather. The cover allows lamp changes through the side without disassembly, and has locking holes for a padlock (not supplied).
What warranty comes with the AquaShield?
10 years on the stainless steel chamber, 3 years on the electronic controller, and 12 months on the UV lamps, UV sensors, and filter housings.
What can't the AquaShield treat?
The AquaShield treats water against micro-organisms using UV disinfection but cannot treat water contaminated by metals, chemicals, or algal toxins. If your supply has these issues, additional pre-treatment is required — get in touch and we'll advise.
