Davey Microlene HF1M — Underbench High Flow Water Filter
Better-tasting water from your existing kitchen tap — no extra tap, no benchtop drilling.
The Davey Microlene HF1M is a 5-stage underbench filter that connects inline with your existing cold-water supply and filters all cold water coming through your tap. Unlike a standard underbench system, there is no separate filter tap — the filtered water comes straight out of your existing kitchen tap at full flow. At a maximum flow rate of 9.5 litres per minute, there is no noticeable drop in pressure.
This is a point-of-use system. It treats drinking water at your kitchen tap — without paying to filter water that goes to the toilet, garden, or shower. If you want filtered water at every tap throughout the home, a whole-house system is the right choice.
Suitable for mains and rainwater supplies — subject to the water quality requirements below. This system can only be used on biologically safe water. If your supply contains bacteria or viruses, additional treatment such as UV disinfection is required upstream of this system. For rainwater applications, pre-treatment for sediment and UV disinfection may be required depending on your supply quality.
Bore water quality varies significantly. We recommend testing your bore water before selecting a filtration system — get in touch and we'll help you choose the right configuration for your supply.
Every system includes a spare HF1M-R replacement cartridge — so you're set for your first change the day it arrives. All plumbing connections required for a standard installation are also included. This product should only be installed by a licensed plumber.
How It Works — 5 Stage Filtration
Stages 1 & 2 — Particle and Sediment Removal
Removes particles, sediment, rust, and silt from the incoming supply.
Stage 3 — Chlorine, Chloramine, Taste and Odour Reduction
Granulated activated carbon reduces chlorine, chloramine, and associated tastes and odours.
Stage 4 — Fine Particle, THM, and Cyst Removal
Filters to 1 micron (nominal), removing fine particles, Trihalomethanes (THMs), and parasitic cysts including Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
Stage 5 — Water Softening
Water softening beads reduce scaling caused by water hardness — helping protect kettles, appliances, and taps.
The cartridge removes 99.95% of cysts (Cryptosporidium, Giardia Lamblia, Entamoeba Histolytica) and has been tested and certified under AS 3497 and NSF/ANSI 42 & 53 for reduction of asbestos, chlorine, cysts, lead, odour, particles, taste, and turbidity.
Note: All micron ratings are nominal.
Performance Data
| Substance | Minimum Percent Removal | Average Percent Removal |
|---|---|---|
| Cysts (3 µm particles) | 99.95% | 99.95% |
| Turbidity | 95.50% | 95.50% |
| Chlorine | 94.73% | 95.02% |
Tested at pH 7.5 ± 0.5, temperature 20 ± 3°C, flow rate 9.5 LPM. Performance will vary based on local water conditions. The substances reduced by this product are not necessarily in your water.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the right system for my home?
If you want better-tasting filtered water from your existing kitchen tap — without a separate filter tap, benchtop drilling, or a whole-house system — the HF1M is a strong fit. It treats water at the kitchen tap only. If you want filtered water at every tap in your home, get in touch and we'll recommend the right whole-house system.
Does it need a separate tap?
No. The HF1M connects inline with your existing cold-water supply. Filtered water comes out of your existing kitchen tap — no hole in the benchtop, no second tap. This makes it particularly well suited to stone or tiled benches.
Does it need to be installed by a plumber?
Yes — this product should only be installed by a licensed plumber. The installation kit includes all components for a standard installation, and the system connects to ½" BSP fittings. Your plumber will have everything they need.
Can I use it with rainwater?
Yes, subject to water quality. For rainwater or harvested water applications, pre-treatment may be required — including sediment reduction and UV disinfection to address bacteria and viruses before the water reaches this system. This system can only be used on biologically safe water. Get in touch and we'll advise on the right setup for your supply.
Is it suitable for bore water?
Bore water quality varies significantly. We recommend testing before installing. Get in touch and we'll help you choose the right configuration for your supply.
How often do I replace the cartridge?
Every 6 months, or earlier if you notice a significant drop in flow rate or a return of taste or odour. The cartridge capacity is 65,000 litres — whichever limit is reached first. Replacement cartridge: HF1M-R.
How do I replace the cartridge?
Tool-free. Turn off the cold water supply, drain the line by running the tap, then twist to remove the old cartridge and twist to install the new one.
Can it be mounted horizontally?
Yes. The cartridge and mounting head can be installed vertically or horizontally — 500mm H x 215mm W either way — to suit the available space in your under-sink cabinet.
Does the HF1M treat bacteria and viruses?
No. This system is certified for cyst reduction and chemical contaminant reduction, but does not remove or inactivate bacteria or viruses. It must only be used on biologically safe water. If your supply contains bacteria or viruses, UV disinfection or another treatment method is required upstream. Get in touch and we'll advise.
What warranty does it come with?
5 years on taps and fittings.
