Fit check

Is it right for my water supply?

A quick check before you buy.

  • Grey water and soft solids

    Good fit

Davey's vortex impeller is less likely to block and handles soft solids in suspension. We recommend vortex pumps for water with hair.

  • Grey water, sumps and septic effluent

    Good fit

Davey vortex pumps suit grey water, sump emptying, septic effluent disposal and water transfer.

  • Stringy waste or sanitary products

    Not this one

We recommend Davey cutter pumps for stringy material and Davey grinder pumps for raw sewage with sanitary products.

  • Sand, grit or abrasive solids

    Consider

Sand and grit will wear the pump faster and shorten its life. Don't pump abrasive materials.

  • Float or manual

    Good fit

A float switch starts the pump as water rises and stops it at a safe level. Leave room for the float to move freely.

  • Pools and spas

    Not this one

Don't use these pumps for recirculating or filtering pools or spas, or with people in the water.

Common questions

Does it switch itself on and off?

Yes. The D40VA has a float switch that starts the pump as water rises and stops it at a safe operating level. Leave room for the float to move freely.

What's a vortex pump good for?

Davey's vortex impeller sits back from the flow, so it's less likely to block and handles soft solids in suspension. We recommend vortex pumps for water with hair.

How much water can it move?

The D40VA has capacities to 240 lpm and heads to 7.5 m, with soft solids up to 35 mm.

What shouldn't it pump?

Don't pump sand, grit or abrasive materials, flammable or corrosive fluids, or stringy waste and sanitary products. Davey's cutter and grinder pumps are made for those.

What warranty does it have?

It comes with a 24-month warranty.

Davey's vortex grey water pumps use a semi vortex, open impeller that's less likely to block, so they can pump soft solids in suspension. The D40VA suits grey water pumping, sump emptying, septic effluent disposal, water transfer, light slurries and factory waste. It has a 304 stainless steel motor shell, shaft, strainer and fasteners, a sand slinger and a float switch for automatic operation.

The D40VA is rated at 0.4 kW (400 W) on 220–240 V single phase, with capacities to 240 lpm, heads to 7.5 m, soft solids to 35 mm and a 2" F BSP outlet. It handles clean or grey water of neutral pH with up to 10% small soft solids or 1% fine solids, and weighs 11 kg.

It comes with a 24-month warranty. For stringy waste or raw sewage with sanitary products, we recommend Davey cutter or grinder pumps instead.
