A carbon block cartridge that does two jobs in one stage — filtering sediment while reducing taste, odour, chlorine, pesticides, and THMs.

Unlike sediment-only cartridges, carbon block cartridges use activated carbon media to adsorb dissolved chemicals as water passes through. Both variants on this page are made from FDA grade materials and are suited to drinking water applications.

Available in two variants with different micron ratings, flow rates, and capabilities. Choose based on your filtration priority.

The ACB10J (5 micron) is a high-porosity carbon block cartridge designed for higher flow rates and longer service life. Its 5 micron rating helps prevent premature clogging and maximises the life of the carbon. It carries WaterMark certification (WMTS-103, Lic. 22987) and is tested in compliance with AS/NZS 4020 for use in contact with drinking water.

The BPAC10J (0.5 micron) is a finer-rated carbon block cartridge with a 0.5 micron nominal rating, making it an effective polishing filter. At this rating it effectively removes Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts from drinking water, complying with AS/NZ 4348 (>99.9% cyst removal). The BPAC10J does not carry WaterMark or AS/NZS 4020 certification.

Both variants are not cleanable. As with all carbon cartridges, run for at least 5 minutes after installation to clear carbon fines, and flush for 20 seconds before using the water for drinking. A sediment pre-filter is recommended to prevent premature clogging of the carbon's active sites. Sold as a single cartridge.

What Both Variants Reduce

  • Taste
  • Odour
  • Chlorine
  • Pesticides

Choosing the Right Variant

ACB10J — 5 micron
Best for: whole-house systems where flow rate and filter life are priorities. Reduces taste, odour, chlorine, pesticides, and THMs at a higher flow rate and longer service interval. Carries WaterMark and AS/NZS 4020 certification. Recommended replacement: 6 to 12 months.

BPAC10J — 0.5 micron
Best for: point-of-use applications where maximum filtration is the priority, including cyst removal. Removes Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts (>99.9%, complying with AS/NZ 4348). Lower flow rate than the ACB10J. No WaterMark or AS/NZS 4020 certification. Recommended replacement: 6 months.

Both variants benefit from a coarser sediment pre-filter to protect the carbon media from premature clogging.

FAQ

Which variant should I choose — ACB10J or BPAC10J?

If flow rate and filter life are your priorities, the ACB10J (5 micron) is the better fit. It handles taste, odour, chlorine, pesticides, and THMs at a higher flow rate and longer service interval. If maximum filtration is the priority — particularly cyst removal — choose the BPAC10J (0.5 micron). Bear in mind the BPAC10J has a shorter replacement interval (6 months) and a lower max flow rate. Not sure? Get in touch and we'll help.

Does this cartridge remove Cryptosporidium and Giardia?

The BPAC10J (0.5 micron) effectively removes Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts, complying with AS/NZ 4348 at >99.9% removal. The ACB10J (5 micron) does not carry this rating.

Which variant is certified?

The ACB10J carries WaterMark certification (WMTS-103, Lic. 22987) and is tested in compliance with AS/NZS 4020 for use in contact with drinking water. The BPAC10J does not carry WaterMark or AS/NZS 4020 certification, but complies with AS/NZ 4348 for cyst removal.

How often do I need to replace it?

ACB10J: every 6 to 12 months, or when taste or odour returns — whichever comes first. BPAC10J: every 6 months. Replace either cartridge sooner if flow drops noticeably.

Do I need a pre-filter?

A sediment pre-filter is recommended for both variants. Carbon active sites can clog prematurely with high sediment loads, shortening the life of the cartridge. A coarser sediment cartridge upstream extends the life of your carbon stage significantly.

What does this cartridge NOT remove?

Carbon block cartridges are not designed to remove heavy metals, nitrates, bacteria, or viruses. For a complete treatment solution, carbon filtration is typically one stage in a multi-stage system. Get in touch if you need help designing the right system for your water.

How do I install it?

After fitting, run the cartridge for at least 5 minutes to flush out carbon fines. Flush for 20 seconds before using the water for drinking. This applies to both variants.

Will it fit my housing?

It fits most 10" jumbo housings — those designed for a 10" × 4.5" cartridge. To check, measure the inside diameter of your housing. Jumbo cartridges are approximately 4.5" across; standard cartridges are approximately 2.5".

Do I need special tools to change the cartridge?

You'll need a housing wrench to open the filter housing — most housings include one. Beyond that, no special tools are required.

What warranty applies?

Filter cartridges are consumables and are not covered under a product warranty. If your cartridge arrives damaged or defective, contact us and we'll sort it out.
