A pleated sediment cartridge that handles high flow rates, cleans up easily, and costs less to run over time.

The Davey Microlene 10" Jumbo Pleated Sediment Filter Cartridge is a polyester pleated cartridge that removes sediment, rust, and scale from your water supply. It carries WaterMark certification (WMTS-103, Lic. 22987) and is tested in compliance with AS/NZS 4020 for use in contact with drinking water. Davey holds ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management) certification.

Suits rainwater, bore, and mains water supplies. Works as a first-stage sediment filter in a whole-house system, or as a pre-filter ahead of UV treatment, carbon filtration, or reverse osmosis.

Unlike disposable depth cartridges, the pleated design can be cleaned and reused multiple times before replacement is needed. When flow slows, remove the cartridge, rinse it under a tap or gently hose it off, sterilise, and reinstall. 1 and 5 micron cartridges typically clean once or twice; 20 and 50 micron can be cleaned several times.

Available in 1, 5, 20, and 50 micron so you can match the cartridge to your water quality and system needs. Sold as a single cartridge.

Why Kiwi Homeowners Choose Davey Microlene

  • Independently certified — WaterMark and AS/NZS 4020 are the highest independent standards for water contact products in NZ and Australia
  • High surface area pleated construction means longer run time, higher flow, and lower pressure drop than depth-type cartridges
  • Cleanable and reusable — extends service life and reduces waste
  • Thermally bonded end caps for added strength and long service life
  • Manufactured under ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmental management systems

Choosing the Right Micron

  • 50 micron — Coarse sediment: sand, grit, rust, visible particles. Good for heavily sedimented rainwater or bore water as a first pre-filter.
  • 20 micron — General sediment: removes most visible and near-visible particles. A common choice for rainwater and bore supplies.
  • 5 micron — Fine sediment: removes fine particles and works well as the main sediment stage in most whole-house systems.
  • 1 micron — Very fine sediment: captures very fine particles, often used as a polish before UV treatment or carbon filtration.

Lower micron ratings filter finer but clog faster — 1 and 5 micron cartridges tend to need cleaning or replacing more often than 20 or 50 micron.

How to Clean and Reuse

When flow rate drops noticeably or pressure drop reaches approximately 15 psi:

  1. Shut off the water supply and remove the cartridge from the housing.
  2. Rinse under a tap or gently hose off visible sediment.
  3. For stubborn deposits, soak in a diluted cleaning solution appropriate to the contamination type, then rinse thoroughly.
  4. Sterilise with a dilute bleach solution before reinstalling.
  5. Reinstall and restore water supply.

Note: 1 and 5 micron cartridges may only be cleanable once or twice before replacement is needed.

FAQ

Which micron rating should I choose?

It depends on your water source. 50 micron suits coarse sediment from bore or rainwater; 20 micron handles general sediment; 5 micron works well as the main sediment stage in most whole-house systems; 1 micron is used as a final polish before UV or carbon filtration. Not sure? Get in touch and we'll help you choose.

How often do I need to replace it?

Every 6 to 12 months as a guide, depending on water quality and usage. Because this cartridge is cleanable and reusable, it may last longer before full replacement is needed. Replace it when cleaning no longer restores adequate flow.

Can I really clean and reuse this cartridge?

Yes. When flow drops, remove the cartridge, rinse or hose it off, and reinstall. For stubborn build-up, soak in an appropriate diluted cleaning solution, rinse thoroughly, and sterilise with dilute bleach before reinstalling. 1 and 5 micron cartridges typically clean once or twice; 20 and 50 micron can be cleaned several times.

Will it fit my housing?

It fits most 10" jumbo housings — those designed for a 10" × 4.5" cartridge. To check, measure the inside diameter of your housing. Jumbo cartridges are approximately 4.5" across; standard cartridges are approximately 2.5".

What do the certifications mean?

WaterMark WMTS-103 means the product has been independently tested and certified against Australian/New Zealand water industry standards. AS/NZS 4020 means it has been tested and approved for use in contact with drinking water. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 cover Davey's quality and environmental management systems at the manufacturing level.

Is it suitable for drinking water?

It is tested in compliance with AS/NZS 4020, meaning the materials have been independently assessed as safe for contact with potable water.

What's the difference between Davey Microlene and other brands of 10" jumbo pleated cartridge?

Davey Microlene carries WaterMark certification (WMTS-103) and AS/NZS 4020 — independent testing standards that not all cartridge brands hold. Davey also manufactures under ISO 9001 quality management. If you need certified filtration for a drinking water application, Davey Microlene is the confirmed choice.

How do I know when to clean or replace it?

A noticeable drop in flow rate means it's time to clean. Remove the cartridge and rinse it off. If cleaning doesn't restore adequate flow, replace it.

Do I need special tools to change the cartridge?

You'll need a housing wrench to open the filter housing — most housings include one. Beyond that, no special tools are required.

What warranty applies?

Filter cartridges are consumables and are not covered under a product warranty. If your cartridge arrives damaged or defective, contact us and we'll sort it out.
