  • Rain, surface and storm water

    Good fit

    These pumps are designed for rainwater, surface water and storm water: cellars, garages, ditches, pits, ponds and sump emptying.

  • Slightly dirty water or small soft solids

    Good fit

    The open impeller handles clean or grey water with up to 10% small soft solids or 1% fine solids. Expect some wear from sand, grit or hard solids.

  • Sewage, effluent, slurry or stringy waste

    Not this one

    We don't recommend these dewatering models for raw sewage, stock effluent, grease traps, hair, stringy materials or slurries. Davey's vortex, cutter, grinder and sludge pumps are made for those.

  • Automatic or manual float

    Good fit

    The D40A has a preset float switch that starts the pump as water rises and stops it at a safe level. The D40M has no float: switch it off by hand, or with an external float or level switch, once water drops to the top of the pump housing.

  • Pit or sump depth

    Consider

    It has a 10 m lead and 12 m maximum total head. The D40A needs a sump wide enough for its float to rise and fall freely.

  • Emptying a swimming pool

    Consider

    These dewatering models suit emptying pools, but they're not for recirculating or filtering pools or spas, and never with people in the water.

D40A or D40M?

The D40A has a preset float switch, so it starts as water rises and stops at a safe level. The D40M is manual: switch it off by hand, or with an external float or level switch, once water drops to the top of the pump housing.

What water can it pump?

Clean or grey water of neutral pH with up to 10% small soft solids or 1% fine solids. Some wear should be expected with hard solids, sand or grit. We don't recommend it for sewage, effluent, grease traps or slurries.

How much water can it move?

The D15A to D40 range has capacities to 240 lpm, 12 m maximum total head. The D40 is the 0.4 kW model with a 2" F BSP outlet.

Can it run when it's only partly under water?

These single case pumps rely on water around the motor shell for cooling, so they should only run partly submerged for short periods up to 10 minutes. Don't run the pump dry.

What warranty does it have?

The D40A and D40M come with a 24-month warranty.

These general purpose dewatering pumps are designed to move rainwater, surface water and storm water, for dewatering cellars, garages, ditches, pits and ponds, and for emptying sumps. They're robust and capable of moving large volumes of water from commercial and industrial sites, with double mechanical seals, a sand slinger and a low velocity suction strainer. The D40A has a preset float switch for automatic operation. The D40M is manual.

The D40 is rated at 0.4 kW on 240 V single phase, with a 2" F BSP outlet and a 10 m oil resistant lead with a 3-pin plug. The D15A to D40 range has capacities to 240 lpm, 12 m maximum total head. The open impeller handles clean or grey water with up to 10% small soft solids or 1% fine solids. The motor shell and strainer are 304 stainless steel, the pump body and impeller are cast iron, and it weighs 11 kg.

It comes with a 24-month warranty. For sewage, effluent or slurries, we recommend Davey vortex, cutter, grinder or sludge pumps instead.
