A dependable polyspun sediment cartridge for 20 inch jumbo housings. The Waimana 20 inch polyspun range catches fine silt, sediment, and particles from rainwater, tank water, and mains supplies — available in 1, 5, and 10 micron to suit different stages of filtration.

The 20 inch jumbo format delivers a higher flow rate of 90 L/min and greater particle-holding capacity than a 10 inch cartridge — the right choice for larger homes and high-demand installations. When it's loaded, replace it — polyspun cartridges are not designed to be cleaned and reused.

Waimana is our value cartridge — solid quality, fair price, no frills.

Why choose the Waimana 20 inch polyspun range

  • Depth filtration — traps particles throughout the full cartridge body, not just the surface

  • Food-grade polypropylene — safe for use in drinking water systems
  • Great value — reliable performance at a straightforward price

How it works

Polyspun cartridges use spun polypropylene fibres wound into a dense cylinder. Water passes through the full depth of the cartridge from outside to inside, with progressively finer filtration toward the centre. This depth-loading design means the cartridge holds more sediment before it restricts flow, compared to a surface-only filter.

Unlike pleated cartridges, polyspun cartridges are not designed to be cleaned and reused. When flow drops noticeably, replace the cartridge.

Choosing the right micron

1 micron — the finest option. Catches fine silt, clay particles, and very small sediment. Used as the final sediment stage before a UV chamber or carbon filter. Clogs faster in high-sediment water — pair with a coarser pre-filter.

5 micron — a mid-range option. Balances fine filtration with longer cartridge life. Suited to moderate sediment loads as a second or final sediment stage.

10 micron — a coarser option. Catches larger silt and sediment particles with a longer service life. Good as a first or only sediment stage in lower-sediment applications.

Note: lower micron ratings filter finer but clog faster. In high-sediment water, always use a coarser pre-filter to protect a finer cartridge downstream.

Frequently asked questions

Which micron rating should I choose?

It depends on your system and water quality. 1 micron gives the finest filtration and is typically used as the last sediment stage before a UV chamber — but it clogs faster in high-sediment water. 5 micron balances filtration quality with cartridge life. 10 micron is better suited to lower-sediment applications or as a first stage. If you're unsure, get in touch and we'll help you choose.

How is the 20 inch version different from the 10 inch?

The 20 inch jumbo format contains more filter media — this means a higher flow rate (90 L/min vs 50 L/min), greater particle-holding capacity, and longer service life between replacements. It's the better choice for larger households and high-flow installations.

How often do I need to replace it?

We recommend replacing every 6–12 months depending on your water quality and usage. In high-sediment water you may need to replace more frequently. The clearest sign is a drop in water pressure or flow rate.

Can I clean and reuse this cartridge?

No. Polyspun cartridges are not designed to be cleaned and reused. The fibres trap particles throughout the depth of the cartridge, and rinsing won't effectively restore flow. Replace when pressure drops.

Will it fit my housing?

It fits most 20 inch jumbo housings — these take a cartridge that's 20 inches long and 4.5 inches in diameter. If you're not sure of your housing size, measure the inside diameter before ordering. Get in touch if you're not sure.

How do I know when to replace it?

The clearest sign is a drop in water pressure or flow rate. When you notice the pressure is lower than usual, it's time to replace the cartridge.

Do I need special tools to change the cartridge?

Just the housing wrench that came with your system. Shut off the water first, unscrew the housing, swap the cartridge, and reinstall. A quick rinse of the housing while it's open is good practice.

Is it suitable for drinking water?

It's made from food-grade polypropylene and is suitable for use in drinking water systems. The spec sheet cautions that it should not be used with microbiologically unsafe water without adequate disinfection — so if your water source carries biological risk, pair it with a UV system downstream.

What warranty applies?

Filter cartridges are consumables and don't carry a standard product warranty. If you receive a cartridge that is visibly damaged or defective, get in touch and we'll sort it out.
